Opalescence® is a clinically proven teeth whitening treatment that removes organic stains and brightens your smile. It can be used with or without light activation, depending on the dentist’s recommendation. The procedure is quick and simple: whitening gel is applied to the teeth for approximately 45 minutes. Opalescence® is safe and helps protect enamel during treatment, thanks to added potassium nitrate and fluoride.

Why Choose Opalescence®?

Opalescence® combines hydrogen peroxide for whitening with potassium nitrate to reduce sensitivity and strengthen enamel. It is suitable for healthy teeth free of disease or decay. Key benefits include:

  • Minimizes tooth sensitivity
  • Strengthens enamel
  • Quick treatment
  • Reduces risk of tooth dehydration
  • Proven whitening results

How the Opalescence® Treatment Works

The in-office whitening gel contains 38% hydrogen peroxide and potassium nitrate. After the procedure, the dentist may provide a lower-concentration gel or toothpaste for home use. The thick gel reduces mess and ensures precise application.

Step-by-Step Procedure:

  1. Teeth are thoroughly cleaned to remove debris.
  2. Photographs are taken to record the initial tooth color.
  3. A cheek retractor exposes the teeth.
  4. A protective resin is applied to the gums.
  5. The first layer of Opalescence® gel is applied for 15 minutes.
  6. Gel is removed, and whitening progress is checked.
  7. A second application is applied for 15 minutes.
  8. Gel is removed, the mouth is rinsed, and a final application is applied.
  9. Teeth are cleaned and post-treatment photographs are taken.

If the dentist opts to use a specialized light, it will be applied for about 30 seconds per gel application to enhance whitening. The full procedure, including cleaning, usually takes under 90 minutes.
