When should my baby first visit the dentist?

At William G. Ziecina D.D.S., P.C. we recommend that children visit us for their first appointment once their first tooth has erupted. If that is not possible, your child should visit us at least by their first birthday for their first dental appointment.

When should I start brushing my baby’s teeth?

At William G. Ziecina D.D.S., P.C. we actually recommend you start “brushing” before your child even has teeth. We recommend using a soft washcloth and massaging your baby’s gums, this will get them used to at-home dental care while also reducing bacteria in the mouth.

What kind of toothbrush should I buy?

We recommend that each of our patients uses a soft-bristled toothbrush which properly fits in the mouth, allowing all teeth to be cleaned.

What kind of toothpaste should I buy?

We recommend toothpaste which contains fluoride and has been ADA approved. For children, allowing them to pick a toothpaste they like can help with encouraging proper dental care and oral hygiene.

How often should I brush my teeth?

We recommend that you brush your teeth a minimum of twice a day, however, brushing after each meal can greatly reduce your risk of dental complications such as decay, cavities, infection and even disease.

How often should I receive professional dental care?

At William G. Ziecina D.D.S., P.C. we recommend that our patients visit us at least twice a year for professional, preventive dental care. Those with chronic dental conditions may require more frequent visits.
